A week before xmas i planted primroses/conifer in a container destined for an out door area. They seem to do well the first week but now seem to be dying. Last week i fed them with tomato feed, not sure if too early, but do not want them to die.
By contrast primroses in the garden centre are blooming. any advice appreciated |

Could be suffering form Botrytis cinerea a grey mould which is a fuzzy grey mould on the plants, Ive seen a lot of it this year so far, where did you buy your plants ?? they were probably grown indoors to close together before being off loaded to a sales area.
Next year try Polyanthus and be care ful a lot of primula are sold as polyanthus and they are different plants, On polyanthus the flowers are held higher on plant on stem, Im still amazed that garden staff still dont know the differance between primula and polyanthus even some wholesalers carry the wrong name in their sales literature.
back to the question if they have grey mould dump them. What conifer did you plant I hope it was not cupressus macrocarpa Goldcrest, It will be eventually a monster 90 metres high keep trimmed or keep for a few years then give it away as a present or dump it. Monster should carry health warning. |

the only problems i ever have with Primroses and Polyanthus is vine weevil larvae/grubs eating the roots! more so in the containers, i didn't think they'd be about so early in the year but i actually saw one earlier on today, suffice to say he got squished. |

You haven't got a lot of crows have you. They destroyed my tubs of crocus and polyanthus. |

could be, both Primroses and Polyanthus are non-poisonous, i feed the leaves ect regularly to our guinea pigs...who enjoy them immensely, if they find them palatable i dont see why the wild rabbits wouldn't. |
