Hi they need lots and lots of light and warmth. over 100 days i read somewhere. they need deep fertile soil and wet lots of wet . putting a plastic bottle down to their roots is a good way to water them. i tried last year and failed but then i did not know any of this info then. best of luck keep us posted. |

I grew sweet potatoes in St Lucia but were not very successful. Yes they need lots of sunshine but they also need lots of water. I got the "seed" from a local farmer and planted it straight away about 6 inches deep. it produced a good shoot but hardly any tubers, The farmer told me that I should have planted it deeper and watered it more. The only other potatoes available there were called "irish " potatoes grown in Idaho USA.

hello i was only wondering im a big beginner myself. I am trying the putting the sweet potato in water and letting the slips grow out the top before setting. They are in green house but not growing an awful lot since the temp dropped. Look it up on You Tube its quiet interesting. look up how to grow a sweet potato. Its in a jar. |
