Here is a thread to nominate your most hated weed!
Mine, without a doubt, is the ephemeral, rapidly breeding, seed spitting Hairy Bitercress Cardamine Hirsuta

Thank you for naming it Protein ! I didn't know what it was called, and I think the name suits it perfectly.
It undoubtedly is the worst weed I've ever dealt with as it sets seed so rapidly......even when it's quite tiny itself. And you definitely need to go to Specsavers if you want to defeat it ! I think I brought it into my garden in nursery-bought plants......it seems a very common weed in garden centre pots. |

It's known as The Garden Centre weed.
You can thoroughly weed it out, but scan around for more, and you'll find another cheeky one poking its tongue out at you behind you! It breeds faster than mice.
Never, ever, ever, let it go to seed as the explosion of seeds as you grab it means there'll be Bittercress children, grandchildren, great grandchildren for evermore. (Unless you continuously weed them out every couple of days.)
Creeping Buttercup, Bindweed and that Wild Strawberry weed are other really horrible weeds. Switch Grass is a curse too. _________________ .

my most hated weed is Bishopweed or goutweed or ground elder, Aegopodium podagrarium. The smallest piece left in the ground re-grows. Roundup does not kill it outright just knocks it back and you need a sharp spade to cut it out in sods and shake the soil off the network of roots. it also has a horrible smell. I can cope with Scutch Docks thistles dandelions, Buttercups and Bindweed but Bishopweed is the ultimate. It has some wonderful herbal cures.

Has to be grass. Looks boring, can't eat it. Only any good for feeding leatherjackets. It keeps coming back and back. And if you let it take hold, you have to push a lawnmower around. Definitely my most hated, it's banished from the garden. |

Yep, I meant to include grass.
I've totally banished ordinary grass from my garden, except for ornamental ones.
If one settles, within a few days when you pull it up, the roots brings a whole load of earth with it. Grass and Dandelions are bent on world domination! _________________ .

Has to be Helxine - 'bits n pieces'. One you have it that is it - I challenge anyone to give me an effective destroyer. Boiling water is the only thing which works for me!

I realise that this is an older post but if you are looking to get rid of any unwanted weeds on paths and driveways etc, why not consider using organic methods. Boiling water seems to work well. The heat of the water when poured directly on to the weeds causes them to shrivel up. I have also seen a few people on this forum suggest vinegar as a way of getting rid of weeds. Be careful if you choose to use this though and remember it's not suitable for weeds on your lawn. It will just cause damage to your grass. |

at the moment, i have ash and elder seedlings growing like grass in the garden; escapees from trees overhanging from my neighbours garden. i hesistate to call ash trees weeds, but they definitely meet the definition of a plant in the wrong place. |

It's interesting to read about what weeds really annoy people. On this forum and other ones, there's such a wide variety of annoying weeds! |

Absolutely and unequivacally without question, not a second thought given it has to be Scutch grass. Other names for this bas**** of a plant are twitch, quick grass, quitch grass (also just quitch), dog grass, quackgrass, couch grass, and witchgrass. _________________ “It’s my field. It’s my child.
