Just moved on to my allotment last monday and was wondering about whether i should go with ridges or just rake it all flat, I have put in one already hopeing to get my sets in. The site was cleared with a machine so all I'v done is turn it with the fork racked the stones and dug about a spades depth on either side of the ridge and placed it on ridge and racked and leveled it off, the edges are a bit crumbly but does the sound alright do ye think ? the plot measures 4mx8 maybe go 50-50 as i hope to put in cabbage and broccoli |

that sounds fine with that preparation, beds are good to provide good drainage as against flat beds. Boundaries are easier seen and there is a place to walk when weeding and harvesting.

Hi
I didn'y know there were allotments in Galway City. I heard that they were putting some in in Knocknacara? Is that were you are?

Hi Conor, the allotments are just west of the City in Moycullen about 8 miles as the crow flies, Hilltopfarm allotments have just opened since the begenning of March. Unfortunately Galway city council are still sitting on the fence regarding allotments in the city. |
