Hi there,
can anyone tell me what this weed is? I'm guessing it's a weed, It's just started to grow in a small area of waste garden behind my fence but it will spread I think. I have looked at weeds online and I cannot positively identify it myself.
It's a bright green colour, with two leaves on a very thin white stem. No idea if it flowers or not, it's quite new, but covers quickly!
This area was treated about 4/6 weeks ago with Round-Up as it was previously infested with nettles, and bindweed.
Before I re-treat again I would like to know what it is.
thank you. |

if you get a close up picture of the seed leaves it may be possible to identify it with more certainty. From it#s appearance and germinating in Autumn it is probably Cleavers or Goosegrass or Stickyback. It is definitely an annual but a nasty one.

Thanks for that, we did have stickyback in our garden before the weed blitz a couple of weeks back, so perhaps it is that. I've sprayed it again anyhow, regardless of what it is, here's a closer look though if you could identify it I'd still be grateful.

it is Stickyback and will survive over the Winter. it is easily killed off while it is small with a contact weedkiller or by hoeing it out in Spring before it gets more than 15-20 cms high. It spreads rapidly by seed and grows rapidly in the early Summer.
