If I am to build a nice garden in my yard I guess it would be helpful if I knew the normal plants in a classic Irish Garden. I have no room for large trees and bushes until I get a bigger yard in a few years, but I want to start in this yard to get the Idea of what I am doing and how to grow plants that I have never grown. My wife is a cute little Irish girl and I want to build her a Irish garden so I am looking as to what plants to plant and then I will see what I can get on this side of the world and see what will grow here. So tell me what are the plants that I need to look for in my neck of the woods.
So far, I have found a nice place that carries some Primroses, and what they are calling Irish Moss. I have a nice selection of Roses to pick from too... but after that I am lost. |

Hello vanmantraveler.
You could try to source these native Irish perennials or similar....
Bellis perennis (a type of daisy)
Primula vulgaris (a form of primrose)
Ranunculus ficaria
Achillea millefolium (Common yarrow)
Leucanthemum vulgare (Ox eye daisy)
Ranunculus ficaria (The lesser celandine)
Or you can try some shrubs....
Cytisus scoparius (broom)
Ulex europeaus (gorse or furze)
Ligistrum vulgare (privet)
Viburnum opulus (Guelder Rose)
Thats some to get you going. |

GPI,
Thanks for the Information, I will have to look some of that up and see what I can come up with on this end. Now I have to look at the lot and see what I can do with the place. We are also looking at a stream rock garden so we are going for a bit of moss and other wetland plants, any ideas there? _________________ Let us see if that will grow. OK what is it? |
