Hi all,

I have had some lovely crocus bulbs growing amongst ornamental grasses in the past but due to ongoing problems with neighbouring cats, I had to redesign/relocate some plants in the garden and lost some of the bulbs in the process.

Now I can't seem to find any bulbs for sale and I love bulbs so much. Looking for dwarf types, crocus (inc. autumn flowering ), alliums and perhaps amarylis.

Anyone know the name of a good bulb catalogue, that I could order? Or are garden centres still selling bulbs anywhere? I heard that some places have stopped selling bulbs due to the cut backs.

Hi Artalis, the shops do not have any bulbs at the moment as this is not the right time for planting them. They will not have spring flowering bulbs (daffodil, tulip, snowdrop, crocus etc.) in stock until the end of August/September as that is when they should be planted for the following spring. They will have the summer flowering bulbs (lillies, amarylis, dahlias etc.) in stock in February/March as that is when they should be planted for summer flowering.

My local garden centres say that they will no longer sell bulbs due to lack of customer demand and low sales...and I have noticed a decline in bulb ranges for sale in local supermarkets too, around Feb/March.....

anxious to locate a source for Autumn flowering crocus well in advance.....

Now I have browsed previous listings on this page, and found some great online websites for bulbs...

Thanks. Ordered a selection from peternyjssen in Holland. I was amazed at the vast selection available. Was very tempted by some unusual exoticones, but kind of knew that they would most likely perish here in Ireland.

PN Holland are more expensive to buy from due to expensive shipping costs that hike up prices. However, I have ordered some crocus sativus and the Holland variety is the one recommended by some of the world's most prolific producers. So I splashed out this time and treated myself.

If I want to see Christmas this year, next time I will have to beg for some freebies, lol.

have you tried beechill bulbs in Tullamore Co. Offaly . This is an excellent source for both wholesale and retail. I have experience of their quality.

just heard that daffodil and other spring bulbs will be scarce this autumn because of low bulb yields in U.K.

I just received my copy of the Irish Garden magazine today, and there was a catalogue inside all about bulbs:

I don't know anything about them, and maybe it's even the same outfit that Protein has mentioned, but it may be worth a look.
