I would too feel uneasy shoving the pot 'n all in the ground, but am tempted to give it a go.
I lost my european fan palm, still in its container over the winter, I planted it as the shoots were still green, and still are.. .but no growth so far.. so watch this space...

Trachycarpus fortunei
I think I'm going to dig it up again and unpot it. It just doesn't "feel" right to me. _________________ .
