Hi guys,
My dad planted this tree from a slip about 25 years ago. It's now about pretty large, say 3 meters. Does anyone know what it is?
Also, the fact that the bark is broken in places, is that something I should worry about.
My camera batteries were dead, so I had to use my phone. Sorry about the photo quality.
Many thanks.

That's magic James, thanks!
I got this from the google link you posted.
Quote: | Madonna Elder is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth
|
I can confirm that its new shoots do tend to grow vertically upwards.
Quote: | Madonna Elder will grow to be about 10 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 8 feet. It tends to be leggy, with a typical clearance of 2 feet from the ground, and is suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a fast rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 30 years. |
30 years ... so it could be coming to the end of its life? It has been looking rather raggy for the past couple of years, which is a pity as it is one of my favourite plants in the garden. |
