Can anyone please help with this plant ID, a colleague of mine found a seed some months ago (in a bowl of pot pourri that had been there for a number of years) he said it was roughly the size of an almond,
and I've been informed that the piece of fruit it came from was a rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), it has since been planted and is growing well, however it has started to look more like a hosta.
Can anyone please help with this?..
Thank you.
Martin

Those pieces of fruit in pot pourri are usually dried totally, so I doubt it is a rambutan plant. The leaf shape and coulour of what grew looks nothing like it either. My question for you MGM30IE is could you be sure your compost was totally clean of foreign bodies, such as a fingernail sized piece of Hosta root? My moneys on that.

@ Blackbird, it is a very good point, thank you, but as far as I'm aware it was from a fresh bag of compost.
@ forest flame, the shevles in the back are Aster & Salvia's that we started as seed some weeks ago.

Martin, it may be worth unearthing the pot to clarify if it was the intended seed that germinated... although it looks like a hosta to us, it may also be a tropical specimen we are not aware of...

Hi, sorry I haven't been on in awhile, but the plant eventually flowered and it did turn out to be a hosta,
Thanx everyone for your help.
