I know it is probably the most basic thing to label your veggie patch when you sow seed, but it never dawned on me at the time. Now my potatoes are poking through, the first ones to poke through were the ones that I thought were my earlies (Colleen variety) but my husband insists these are the main crop (Lady Balfour) ones and I planted the earlies on the other side. There was only a couple of days and everything is up and they all look the same!
Will there be an obvious difference as they grow???
Needless to say I'll be labeling in future... |

Howya slugsaway.
It's a common oversight to make but no real tragedy, the spuds will grow regardless !! The colleen will be ready to eat earlier and I think it will become obvious as the season wears on which is which. But here are a few other ways to recognise them : the Colleen have white flowers while Lady balfour has none also Colleen has a white to yellow skin and Lady balfour is reddish. So you could scrape away a little soil and have a peek later on. Hope this helps. Enjoy _________________ http://thefoxygardener.blogspot.com |

Thanks for that!! I was really hoping that there would be some obvious difference like that. I've 3 ridges of LB's and 1 of Colleen... now we just have to sit back and see if its my hubby or myself that have the best memory! |
