Here are some pictures I thought I would share with ye of a labyrinth my dad made a few years ago in his garden in West Cork. It's about a 360 meter round trip and takes about 15 to 20 min to walk.

Lonicera (Lonicera nitida), it was all planted from cuttings.

That is brilliant. I planted some lonicera hedges with cuttings taken from my Granny's hedge but didn't have the space for anything like that. Its fab. Do you know how far apart the original cuttings were planted - ie the distance between the hedges, not the individual plants?

I cant remember, Ill have to ask him next time I'm down, I think it was about 90cm as the mature hedge is about 40cm wide and the path is about 50cm wide. Here is a photo I found of, what looks to be its second year growing.

Thanks for that. I can't imagine the amount of work to keep it looking so good. Its amazing how quickly lonicera makes a decent hedge but then you have to pay the price!

Yes indeed, seeing it now its hard to believe that it is only about five years old, and it has been at its desired height for some time already as well.
As long as you keep Lonicera hedges trimmed, they are great, they can become a handful if overgrown. Don't know if you ever tried tackling an overgrown Lonicera hedge with a pair of hand held hedge shears, well if you have then you know what I'm talking about and if you havent, then I can tell you its a complete waste of time.
