Is Miscanthus an okay plant in your area? No seed germination problems where we live, and I suspect our climates are similar.
I divide mine every year or two. Keep some, give some away as gifts. That way the clump size remains about the same at ground level.
What puts ease in dividing these for me, is cutting through the middle with a sharp ax, which only takes a minute. And sharpening the shovel on the grinder, when allows cutting the perimenter in a minute or two.
One half like what's in the wheelbarrow can probably supply 12 plants worth. And I may start propagating these to sell sometime. Just small scale at our residence.

Yeah! We got a small clump of miscanthus here in Thurrock, England growing by necessity in a shadier part of the garden. It has never clumped up like yours though. BTW very nice pictures.
