hi there
well at the minut im trying to put the garden design (that exists in my head!) into reality.
we have a newly constructed concrete/cement fence around our house.i want to sow a row of trees around the boundary too.
ive been keeping my eyes peeled for the last few months and i like the following :
acer crimson king
acer variegated one
tulip tree
sorbus (silver leaves)
mountain ash
amelianchier

i also love love love the red oak tree but my husband reckons they grow too big...so im working on him at the minute!!!

how far from the fence would i need to sow them and how far apart

and also what do you think of this choice of trees?

We used to have a mountain ash. Got it more to just collect it, than because it was a favorite for looks. Food for birds part of the year anyhow. But maybe just a few days worth of meals.

I like the Crimson King maple too, and also the Crimson Sentry.

Black Tupelo / Nyssa is one of my favorites, as are Purple Beech. Lately, I've been preferring Vine Maple over Japanese Maple.

Amelanchier is a wonderful small tree, rather undervalued I think. And how about silver birch too?

look into Crimson sentry, not as common, smaller anda different purpple hue.

buying tulip trees at the moment, great autumn color.

also acer rubrums for first class autumn color

thanks a million guys.im going to look up some of the ones that you mention and see what they are like

while out driving today i saw many gold coloured beautiful trees.from a distance they look like oak leaves. couldnt get close to take photo esp with 2 babies in car...are there gold leaf oak trees??
