A few more details please......are you totally open or is there a fence/wall there already.? What height is it ? In other words, do you just need visual screening at eye level or do you need dense growth right down to ground level ?

In that case I would suggest trees rather than hedging, and you need to consider the aspect ...would you be losing precious sunlight by growing trees there? Or, indeed, would you be ruining a neighbour's garden by growing a bank of trees ? The smaller birches, that don't grow excessively tall may well be suitable......maybe rowans too.

I think trees might be the way to go alright. There wouldn't be any problem with neighbours or light but i would like something that prunes well and keeps foliage for as long as possible, thanks again

This might be what you are looking for.

When mature, leaves start from 8' up and it keeps its leaves all year round.
Fast growing as well. _________________
