What shape lawn should I plant ????

This is my garden currently. I desoded all the original sod and plan to lay gravel or stone over most of the surface. But the portion of muck in the middle will be a new grass bed, but I'm not sure which shape this should take any more. What do people suggest.

Should I just go with a plain rectangle to match the rest of the garden or should I plant something with a curve ??? Just confused now as I've thought about it too much.

Any suggestions ?????

PS. If anyone has any suggestions on how best to trim an apple tree I'd appreciate it as the tree in the background looks like it needs a bit of pruning when the time comes. I've already cut off any branch pointing downwards, but think it needs a bit more tidying. What do you think ?

I made some beds in the shape of a teardrop this summer it's quite a nice shape.

hi ian
looking at the area i would say an oval lawn would look great giving you a lot of room for planting.
with regard to the apple tree there is a very good post on the pruning of them in the fruit section i think.
good luck with the garden let us see a pic when its sorted.

Quite taken by the rectangular design. I must lay it out on the ground and see what it looks like in real life.

I agree with forest flame its oval all the way for me iandromiskin. it relieves the already rectangular shape created by the site walls. Or you could expand on Foxylocks teardrop and create a figure 8 lawn altogether.

I think I prefer the rectangular shape too iandromiskin. All your other lines seem to be straight and as your space seems quite small I'd hesitate to introduce a different shape. However, I would strive to soften all the straight lines with exuberant planting.

Although something at the back of my mind tells me something is needed to lift it.

By the way, it won't rain for a week, from tomorrow, Wednesday the 9th to at least Wednesday the 16th. Beyond that, I don't know.
