I have a Blue Cedar in our front garden which has quite a spread.

In accordance with our new policy of eliminating grass, which plants, shrubs, ferns, groundcover etc, could possibly be planted underneath this tree?

The ground is absolutely covered in needles but grass formerly grew quite happily under it with no problems. However, grass is now no longer in our garden plans.

Hi KS

I am going to take a guess and presume the soil under the tree is acid and dry- but you may want to test the ph of soil before you go planting.

If it is acidic - here is a list of acid loving / tolerant plants

And here is a list of some woodland type plants - chances are they can tolerate the dry shady conditions.

Also, add ferns to your list of potential plants too.

Regards

In my experience it is very difficult to get anything to establish under mature trees. The existing plant with strong roots always takes the lions share of the water and nutrients.
