I just got a great piece of news today from the managment company who run the apartment block where I live in.
I was in touch with them recently about the possibility of using a tiny strip of land behind my apartment to grow some veg. They got back to me today and gave me their blessing.
It's great as it's fenced off with a locked gate and has a water tap also.
the only problem I see is that it is on a slight incline and I have yet to find out what the soil is like. I'm thinking poor and posssibly contains some builders rubble. I have been given a key and am going down to investigate it in the morning.
There are some newly planted trees and shrubs and a nice high stone wall behind.
I will have to chose a spot on the strip to cultivate . Any tips?
I will try and post a a picture of the site _________________ "Don't wear perfume in the garden - unless you want to be pollinated by bees" |

Fantastic news Sundew.......
So many possibilities.
Check which way is north/south and the inline sounds good too especially for drainage and light... get a soil testing kit and start checking out places to get some free topsoil/well rotted muck...........When the photo's come we can give more tips.....Like choosing a place not too near the trees etc.....
Exciting stuff......... _________________ if you are interested in raised vegetable beds and veggie growing I have a new website - raisedbeds.net We're busy on social networking too and have over 12,000 members in the group. |

That is fantastic news Sundew just shows you don't get unless you ask. It may also mean the management company will offer others the chance to take up vacant land for the purpose of growing. Sounds like a win win situation.
Look forward to the pictures. _________________ The Secret Garden Centre

I went down to have a look at the site today. It's not as steep as I thought but may benefit from terraced planting. Good high wall for shelter. there are some small shrubs and trees on the site but I have a chosen a piece of ground away from them. The site is on the Southerly side of the apartment blocks so gets good sun for most of the day.
I am posting 2 photos of the plot where I intend to stake my claim I have no
doubt that some others who live in the complex will join me and hopefully it will develop into a community garden.
The actual strip of land and the area where I wish to put my plot.
Looking from the path up toward the high wall! _________________ "Don't wear perfume in the garden - unless you want to be pollinated by bees" |

Hi Sarah: I am quite enthusiastic about the whole thing and I do think it would be a very valuable asset for the apartment complex. I love the old high wall too. Beautiful stonework and I'm sure it could tell some tales _________________ "Don't wear perfume in the garden - unless you want to be pollinated by bees" |
