We have a number of raised beds in our garden, the other week before we actually planted anything I decided to throw the leftover slate around the walkways which are between each bed.

Now the rest of the garden is currently being eaten by slugs however the beds have seen no slug action at all... I've spent around two hours checking through the slate to make sure nothing is there and there are no signs of the things

I've been told by a friend that they won't go near them because the slate will scrape and cut them as they move over them, just wondering if this is ture or shoud I look for organic pellets and all them other stuff?

No its not just you Adam.
Sharp slate will be a deterrent for sure.

Just to be on the safe side, keep an open eye out for slugs about the beds for a while longer.
Any signs of slugs can be curbed by using one or a combination of the tips listed in this article........ Irish garden pests, problems with slugs and snails.

We already have a fair few eggs around the beds incase they make it over the slate
