Pulmonaria saccharata facts and information.
Pulmonaria saccharata is commonly known as the Sage of Bethlehem.
This perennial thrives in soil that includes good quantities of well-rotted compost as mentioned above.
Originating in France and Italy, this plant has an ultimate height of 0.3 metres (1ft); with a spread of approx .6 metres (2ft).
Its lance shaped leaves are dark green and slightly hairy with white speckling, the plant retains these leaves over winter.
Flowers emerge during spring in shades of pink, blue or white depending on the variety cultivated.
“Sage of Bethlehem” thrives in cool and moist soils rich in organic matter.
A planting position in partial or deep shade is ideal to prevent drying out during dry spells.
