I just remembered that my nana used to strain the water from boiled potatoes on the weeds in the driveway and it was very effective and cheap but be careful wiyh the boiling water _________________ Vegetable growing is the best cure for the recession blues |

| I wonder if it is just the boiling water that did the trick.....? After all, we eat potatoes, so I wouldn't like to think there was a herbicide in them! |

| I'm sure the boiling water killed all the shallow rooted weeds alright. But as for dandylions and docks, Id say they would just be set back a bit. The salty water from boiling bacon was often thrown out like this as well. The salt was meant to prevent weed seeds from sprouting. |

| I have used a weed wand. This looks like a walking stick with a gas canister attached which scorches the weeds and kills them. Tap rooted weeds like dandaline will just be retarded for a while but you can always scorch them again when they emerge. I have also sprayed with roundup which is good for clearing a large area. It is not a green solution but it is effective. |

The real reason nana strained the potatoes on the grass and the weeds was she had nowhere else to dispose of the water like many people of her era as they did not have internal plumbing in their houses. I just thought it was a better use for the water than pouring it down the sink as i cannot brush my gravel driveway . _________________ Vegetable growing is the best cure for the recession blues |
