Any ideas for "miniature lawn" (to be kept indoors

I'm into dollhouse miniatures, and ever since I bought my first bonsai tree - the only one I ever bought, all the rest are grown from her cuttings - I've had this fantasy of creating a real miniature garden, in about 1:12 scale..

I've found the ideal spot for my bonsai trees, and they've been doing well for the last few years, but I'm a bit clueless as to how to create the mini lawn..

My mam has sent me a few bags of grass seeds from Finland (my native country), where people usually grown this certain type of grass for Easter - it can be grown on a tray or even just in a tiny cup, and you can leave it tall or trim it, and finally decorate it with Easter stuff.. Anyway, I've never actually tried keeping it alive for longer as it's been just an Easter decoration thing.

I'm definitely going to have a go at keeping the "Easter grass" alive for mini garden purposes (once I find a suitable tray and finish the rest of my mini garden design), but if anyone has other/better ideas for miniature lawn, I'd love to hear them!

I honestly don't know if this will work but give this a try
I see from your profile that you live in Bray , go along the walk from Bray to Greystones and you can get some very short grasses (Festuca ) that have adapted to the harsh conditions and are tiny . Its worth a try . Wink

I could make a mini lawnmower, but I don't think I'd have the patience to make a working one.. So, trimming will just have to be done with scissors.. Cool

Stello, I'd suggest trying the both "Lordi" grass seeds your mam sent and the grass along the walk from Bray to Greystones.
Try them in two seperate trays.
You say they are to be kept indoors, will they have a good natural light source.
If not, they will stop being miature and strain / stretch towards available light sources.

As for a mower, use a hair clippers or a beard trimmer from a shaver. Razz
