re lawn problems

Hi Folks below is a pic of my newly sown lawn.I have a few queries.There is now more weeds than grass and i need help , what should i do to rescue it.Is is being smothered with a weed and i dont know whether to feed and weed or wait or ?? oh no dig it up again.Can anyone advise.All advice is greatly appreciated.Also can anyone hazard a guess as to what this weed is

We need to know a few more things about the lawn. How was it prepared? what was growing there previously? What weeds are there now? Did the lawn seed germinate? how was the seed sown and how was it covered? Was there any weedkiller applied before sowing?

Hi guys in reply to micheals queries. the previous use was for growng spring barley so i got a farmer in to plough and till it.I then left it for a while and these weeds starting growing so i hired a stonerake and worked on it before sowing the seed which were just applied using a spreader,up and down and over and back.I suppose that the weeds were never really killed off as there was no spraying done at all.The seeds have germinated.After they were applied i rolled the surface but i did not cover the seed as such .I used a roller.Again there was no weedkiller applied at all.i appreciate all ideas on how to retrieve the lawn rgds Jimmy mac .Belfast i will take a close up pic and post it tomorrow

If they are annual weeds only then they can be cut down with the lawnmower without using any weedkiller. Once the grass seed has germinated there is a good chance that it will succeed but it will be next year before there is a fair lawn there. The weeds there at present had already germinated when you sowed the lawn seed. It was a bad start for the lawn when the seed was merely rolled in and not covered.

The first I think is Chickweed and the second is Knotgrass, both are annuals and will die over the winter.
