i am having problems growing lettuce

I am germinating them and after about two weeks they fall over and die, is it to hot for them or am I doing something wrong?

Yes I think you are right. It is probably too hot for them. They don't need heat after they germinate. In fact they germinate very easily too even in chilly weather.

thank you. when they germinate do I replant them straight away and how often do I water them? I am using a self water propergator..

Yes I germinate about 20 seeds in a 4" pot of compost. I wet the compost beforehand and I keep it moist the whole time. I cover the seeds lightly with some compost. I check them every day to see that the compost is nicely moist without being too wet. They germinate in about 10 days. I let them grow in that pot until they are about 4" tall and then I transplant them to the ground in the tunnel. I fork the ground in the tunnel so that it is nice and fine. Sowing outside can be done from the beginning of June on. Again fork the ground so that it is nice and fine to receive the little plants. Protect plants from slugs with slug pellets or beer traps.
