Looking for help
A while back my sun parked his boat in front garden and stripped her down leaving right mess ,which he and his pal fixed by putting down some membrane and covering the whole front with gravel,now that he has gone on his merry way ,the mammy wants something done to lift the place,can i sink some pots ,any idea's most welcome.thanks sailor

Sailor. I have tulip bulbs under gravel and very successful they are. Draw back the gravel here and there, cut through the membrane, lay down a bulb (the right way up) and return the gravel. The bulb will grow and thrive but be careful that they are put where they won't be walked on Jan thru Mar. Once the first leaves appear above ground you can see and avoid them. At the end of flowering, use garden ties to keep all the leaves of individual bulbs together until they die down. During the rest of the year keep the gravel raked and weed very selectively by hand. I found that gravel can act as a seed nursery. For instance I have feverfew and flat-leaf parsley thyme and clovers which others might deem weeds.

I made a gravel garden for my sister a couple of years ago. Used mostly grasses. They work really well with gravel and I've got loads of baby plants too.
