Have recently planted some seeds in pots in the glasshouse. They are a great favourite of mine though I have had mixed success with them. Have had particular difficulty in recent years getting them from the tray in the glasshouse to the flower bed as they dont seem to like being moved. Any advise on this would be welcome. [/img]

How's drawda then breezyacre?
Poppies are tap-rooted plants that do not transplant easily once the tap-root is formed. Grow in peat pots or something similar and transplant into the garden, pot and all. I actually use the cardboard tubes from toilet paper for jobs like this.

My breezyacre is extra breezy today. Thanks a mill. for the advice. Spent many happy days of my youth in Ballyvaughan. Wouldn't imagine the climate there is too forgiving for gardening though what with the salt air and all that.

Not just Ballyvaughan, Muckinish 250 feet above the castle. I became an expert at bulletproof plants shrubs etc. found a nursery way out beyond Clifden that did mostly shrubs and trees graded from 1 to 10 for survival in wind. All my plants were 9 and 10! They also did this brilliant netting which could break a hurricane. Learned a lot in Ballyvaughan. Including Monk's pub for food, drink, music, song and gab. No wind problems around Drogheda then.

Wind problems alright as I am living on a hill but the prevailing wind is South westerly and all its salt has been dropped on some other unfortunate before it gets to me.
