I think this is Hypericum.
i have anice grouping of this in my own garden, but its never been evergreen. Maybe in some sheltered gardens it retains some foliage. |

Hypericum "Hidcote" is right.
Here it is in my own garden, bottom left, a cluster of three.

Great raised bed!!
Peat if I am not mistaken.
Hypericum (St Johns wort) is a trouble free plant that is used a lot in amenity planting. It's a medicinal plant too, used for depression and to treat alcoholism amongst other things.
The primary active constituent is a pigment in the leaves and flower dots called hypercin. It is considered an herbal replacement for Prozak!
Hypericum products are banned (I think ) in Ireland and can only be obtained by prescription.
A quote from VHI health says "St John's Wort totally eliminates the effectiveness of oral contraceptives and is claimed also eliminates the effectiveness of drugs used to treat aids sufferers, heart, cancer, lukemia patients.
The Hypericum calycinum L. has escaped into the wilderness in Northern Ireland and is seen as an invasive weed all over the world
Probably too much information but I though it was worth a mention! _________________ www.gardening.ie |
