Bringing up an old thread sorry Smile I was out walking the dogs last night and noticed that the river bed is full of bind weed - It wasn't there last year but seems to be killing off all the other growth along the river (dodder). Is it just me or is this stuff all over the place now?

BAd news for pesticide haters I'm afraid, but it looks like a good herbicide is the only way to go. James' idea is a very good one and will certainly slow it down.
To kill it outright onoly really a couple of options. 2-3 applications of a hormonal herbicide such as MCPA or 2-4D. Roundup will have little effect on the roots.
It will also help to bruise the weeds before hand, a few belts of a rock or shovel will do it. This allows the herbicide to get in more efectively. After bruising spraying with a hood over your nozzle will prevent drift. The bindweed will return again, but after 2-3 treatments like this, weed kill should be nearly complete.
