Why does dogs pee damage lawns, Dog pee has a PH of approx 6 to 6.5 which is ideal for growing of grass so why does it burn the grass, after all you water lawns with tap water dogs are given the same water to drink so its not the water that's the problem but whatever else is in its diet and also in the Pee , Therefore the answer is Urea which is converted to Ammonia when exposed to water. If you dog is being fed a meat diet this is converted to protein which contains high levels of Nitrogen resulting in higher levels of Urea in Pee.So how do solve the problem,
Reduce the meat in the diet. This reduces urea in the urine. Water the lawn straight after a dog pees. This dilutes the nitrogen level and washes it lower into the soil, improving the grass. Train the dog to pee in the same spot all of the time.
