Just discovered today that one of my new raised beds (outside polytunnel) which has a range of herbs in it has been attacked by rats. There was a number of rat hols in the main bed and tunnelled underneath the bed structure. I'm a little worried about the herbs being contaminated and not sure what measures to take. Poison is not an option as I have a number of dogs and cats. Any advice welcome, I did read about the use of peppermint as a deterrent.

You could leave it to the cats?! We had a rat's nest in the compost - for a very short time. Our cats made short work of them. Failing that, peppermint might do it (and would keep the cats away too! Laughing )
