Progress,
Bulbs starting to pop up although some daffs in flower along with snowdrops and crocus, hardwood cuttings in, time to clean greenhouse and search for quality seed.
garden still soaked so stay off soil, lawns a mess but will be ok in a few weeks, big tree to come down so that will be work for a day.

And heat for many more days. I have daffodils starting to bud out too. Still have loads to do in the greenhouse.

Stoned another few feet of ditch yesterday. Did too much and am suffering for it today. Another 20ft should do it. It's already made a big difference to the garden.
I am going to alter the little water feature by the back door, making it less Japanese, more Mediterranean, and have ordered a 'stone' lion head mask as a feature. Got an email today - it's on it's way. Better get the wall built!
Veg seeds ordered from Chilterns arrived last week. Just itching to get going.

Down this neck of the woods, our ethnic country cousins, predominantly with red hair, have such statues at the entrance piers, lions, eagles and suchlike. The bigger the better from what I can see, don't know if it is just local to here or it spreads further up the country. I didn't have you in that category m'lady.

Ooooh no, I can assure you that 'Aslan' is very tasteful. It is the same mask/waterspout that I got for my friends garden. I have been looking for a reason to get one for myself ever since. You can find him at www.artstonesculpture.com

So that's where the country cousins get them from.

Well, it's finished! The ditch is done - and I'm done-in! Managed to get the last of the stone shifted before the rain started.
It's a little wonky, but nothing that a rake can't sort out - unlike my shoulders. Just had a nice soaky, Epsom salts bath and opened a bottle of Newcastle Brown to celebrate.
The lion fountain head has just arrived too. So I am a very happy bunny - at least I will be when I get on the outside of that Newky Brown!

Amazing what one can do with a sceogh with determination and desire. Well done.
Newky Browns, now that brings me back. Whenever I was in St. Albans I always drank them there and never anywhere else. Don't ask me why as I don't know myself.

Had a busy day yesterday. I sorted out some climbing roses and tied them back onto their supporting trellis, cut through the arm-thick stems of the ivy on some of the birches, cleared the site of a new water feature and made a start on updating the old one.
I am going to use some of the old edging stones to replace some of the peat blocks that line the stream. They haven't worked out as I wanted as they have dried out and just look like a row of peat blocks, not a natural stream edge. It's called turf here, but to me turf is grass?
Rather glad the weather was bad today. I had a good excuse not to do anymore outside! I'm getting too old for this lark!
