Acer rubrum “Schlesingeri” facts and information.
This tree which is a native of Eastern North America can grow to a height of approx 15 metres (50ft); with a crown spread of approx 12 metres (40ft).
This maple has the typical three to five lobed maple leaf as depicted on the Canadian flag.
These green leaves change in autumn to deep red with white undersides, so beautiful that it seems a shame to rake them up.
Acer rubrum “Schlesingeri” is a fast growing tree which does well in the Irish cool and moist climate.
Offer this autumn gem a position in full to partial sun with shelter from strong winds and a neutral to acid soil which gives the best colour.
Another red or scarlet maple to look out for is Acer rubrum “Scanlon” which has a more conical shape than “Schlesingeri” |
