I recently purchased a ph meter and tested it on a number of store bought bags of ericaceous compost and they registered around 6 to 6.5. Initially I thought it was the meter so I tried it in a glass of water mixed with vinegar and it went straight down to around 4. Then I tried it on a blueberry plant I had just purchased and it went down to about 5.5.

I am perplexed by this. I presumed all ericaceous compost would have a lower ph. The brands I bought were Grow Sure and Shamrock.

I am going to buy a soil ph test kit and try again just in case it's the meter.

Has anyone had any issues like this before?

any advice is greatly appreciated[/b]

I've never tried this, but it doesn't surprise me. The quality of a lot of composts is hit and miss.
