Anyone got any ideas how to prevent Onion neck rot, seems to be a problem lately, have let the onions die back naturally, have not bent over foliage, have not allowed bulbs get wet before harvrsting,kept them in well ventelated shed before storing but still get Neck rot. Anyone else got any ideas.I Will not use chemicals on crop. |

If you look at the last few posts of my 'Onion Experiment' entry, you'll see I've had the very same problem and have now thrown away at least 40% of my crop, maybe more. All mine are grown from sets and whites do worse than reds but, apart from that, I've no idea why they don't keep. It may transpire that there's something in the breeding of new varieties that causes it. Mine were New Fen Globe if that's any help. _________________ A novice gardener on newly cultivated, stoney ground. |

Ok thanks i have no problems with red onions, Red Baron this year i tried Stuttergarter giant but they suffered from neck rot. |
