Will compost matter break down when placed on a concrete base as opposed to being placed on the ground.

Regards

Morning AJ! Glad you're still around. As I understand it you'll need the help of bacteria and worms to break the stuff down. A lump of soil, or weeds that still have soil on their roots should provide the bacteria, I'm told, but you may need to help it out with a few worms if you don't feel they'll colonise it naturally on wet nights. I've just experimented with keeping all my compost in big blue barrels over the winter but all I've succeeded in producing is a foul smelling liquid and bits of things like grass and nettles that haven't rotted. Plan B for this year.

Yep, I come and go, always finding something or other to distract me. In fairness my garden is looking good but my resolve is to get the veg element sorted by the end of the year.

Regards
