I found this bracket fungus growing on a stump in Ballyare Woods today when walking the dog. I was struck by the beautiful markings and subtle colours. One of Autumn's jewels.

I think Bracket Fungi are lovely.

Maybe in the future I'll do a non-draining trough filled with bits of tree branches and stumps to feature them. (Just an idea.)

A friend of mine once did a series of watercolour studies of fungi, lichen and moss. They were THE most beautiful things I have ever seen. Smile It really made you look at these humble 'plants' in a new light.
