Hi all. Thanks for all your comments, I have decided to hold off on the allotment and try use some of the back garden to see how I get on.

Also a cat keeps pooing in my flower bed. Any suggestions on how to stop him

Having 5 cats myself, I sympathise! Try short pieces of cane soaked in creosote or neat Jeyes Fluid. Or, something prickly like holly cuttings or hawthorn. Failing that I believe lion poo works (if you can stand the pong yourself). I have spruce trees in the garden and use the lower branches as both a cat deterrant and plant support.

A .22 is fairly effective. Failing that get a vicious terrier. I hate cats. Useless creatures! !!

You can buy stuff that is like 'crystals' of bright green jelly, either in a pet shop or in a garden centre, which you sprinkle on the ground which the amials are fouling (having removed the faeces first and rinsed the area). I have found it quite effective, in the past.

I'm a dog sort of guy. Sure what use is a cat anyway? Sleep for 23 hours a day. They wont bring back a stick or a ball. Cannot take them for a walk. Useless as a guard dog and keeping tinkers away. Strut around with an imperious nature. Wont play.

A few cuttings off the roses, the hawthorn and the holly and lay them all over the flower bed. If they put them, sometimes they do. Put more there. Perseverance...
