Hi, I was recently talking to an old neighbour of mine who has a little veg garden. He was telling me he has sowed Greyhound cabbage seed this week which he will sell as bundles of young plants in the spring. I've never heard of this as I've just sowed my Imperial spring cabbage in my seed bed. Do other people grow summer cabbage this way?

Thanks
Tom

It used to be a fairly common practice which seems to be dying out, along with the old-timers who do it, unfortunately.

If I want young plants to grow on and haven't grown my own, I have to go to the garden centre and take pot-luck. There was a time I could go to Joe Bid's shop (everything from a needle to an anchor!) every year and know I'd get a bunch of 'Yorks' or of wallflowers, or whatever. No more, sorry to say!
