Hello, We have just moved in and our new garden was empty. One very kind lady gave away two trees and many different plants, I really want to identify the tree and plants to be able to take care of them. Also please maybe someone knows what is happening with our tree, leaves are getting black. Million Thanks!

Tree is Portugese Laurel could be a mix of cold wind damage and lack of watering 3 pic is Hydraenga then next Azalea ? Dark leaf is Viburnum Tinus Last one is maybe Rhodedendron or pos Azalea too. Others may be able to tell you exactly Good luck

Dear Ado 2, Thanks we planted it 2 weeks ago, I am absolutely sure in our garden it wasn't sprayed but maybe that lady accidentally did? Hope so much to save it, will start from watering it more? What is strange that the front side is less black than the back part of it. The back is almost all black. Thanks!

Looks like it's dying Take a the black leaves off. Check the soil see if it's dry. Have you been watering it as it's quite big and you only recently planted it. Did it look like that when you got it. ? Did you plant it straight away and not let the roots dry out ?

Hi Ado 2, Thanks for getting back! When we got the tree it was a bit dark & now it is almost full of dark leaves. I will take the black leaves off for sure and have already started giving him plenty of water! Hope to win the battle Thank you again so much for your help!

...just a thought...but the wooden fence panel looks different than the rest?....has it been stained recently?...that can sometimes damage a plant....

That's a point especially if creosote was used. Also if its got into the soil.

Well spotted cutter12, it looks like a new fence panel and it is very odd that the side facing it is worse than the side facing out.
Like Silver surfer, I think 5 is a Pieris and 6 a Viburnum davidii
I also noticed the Rhodo. shows signs of Vine weevil damage ( the notched leaves). They'll not have much effect on a Rhodo. but I'd watch out if you have pot plants especially Primulas, Strawberries or Fuchsias. I speak from bitter experience. Don't want to put you off - gardening is the best job/ hobby EVER!
Good luck!
