I have a new wall between myself and my neighbour and would like to train some climbers up the wall......what would people suggest that would add some colour over the year?

How high is the wall, what way does it face, what is it made of/finished with, what is the soil like?

Wall is about 5 to 6 feet high
South facing with only a small part of it under shade
When I say wall I actually mean that it is a concrete panelled fence.....so it's that type of finish
Soil in the garden is a heavy clay, although along this boundary is more of a light clay......

As long as you supply some support (wires or stout trellis on battens) you have lots of options.
Roses do well in a clay soil, so do clematis and you can grow one through the other. It sounds like this wall is in a prominent position so it would be good to go for plants that have several seasons of interest (foliage, flowers, scent, fruit/seed heads, stems). Watch that you choose plants of a suitable vigour for the height of the wall - you don't want a very vigorous climber on something only six feet high.
Stefan Buckaski had a very good book on climbers some years ago, with lots of ideas, if you can locate a copy.

He didnt ask Stefan Buckaski he asked us, i would suggest Clematis cirrhosa var. balearica an early flowering one then maybe C. macropetala. and C. armandaii then you have three different one each flowering at different times.
A Solanum crispum "Glasnevin" can be trained to grow on wires. Apples can be trained on a wall.
Something unusual like Aristolochia macrophylla, Tropaeolum tuberosum var. lineamaculatum.

Maybe Keeks hasn't heard of Stefan Buckaski in order to ask him, but it might be a good source of reference for his current and future plans. All knowledge is good.

I never heard of Stefan Buckaski and i googled him and they never heard of him either. If a tree falls in the forest but no one hears, does it make a sound? If someone writes a book but no one buys it, does it make that person an author?

Stefan Buczacki, good guys spelling is as good as his maths!
I heard that tree fall. Mr Buczacki is Britain's second most prolific author of gardening books. Surprised you haven't heard of him what with all your horticultural expertise.

Well I had formed the opinion that you were trained in horticultural matters given your numerous informed comments and your job is, I believe, of a horticultural nature too. You also, at some stage, stated that you had access to the largest horticultural library in the country.

All good idea...thanks guy.
I like Greenages idea of the differ me flower times. That is what I am looking for is to have colour for longer and climbers that will intermingle and give me that range of colours over a long period.
I'll see if I can pick up that book somewhere, but don't think the local library has it available.....but we'll see
