I have been busy and have some vegetables growing but I seem to have a lot of slugs. Does anyone know what is the best way to get rid of them? Aldi have slug peletts but would they make my vegetables non-organic?

Beer traps and/or a liberal dosing of salt.

Very serious. They love beer. Put out a shallow dish with beer in it and pick out the drunks in the morning. A night time ambush with the salt cellar is also effective.

OK it can be very difficult to tell if someone is joking or not. Beer seemed really unlikely. I will try the beer and salt if not the slug peletts.

Some people gather their slugs by torchlight and place them in a can, killing them with boiling water after. (Slugs don't have much sense of humour.)
Don't get salt on your plants as they won't like it.

Oh thanks for that, I won't use the salt then. To be honest I can't bear the thoughts of putting slugs in boiling water. At least in the beer it doesn't seem painful.

They might as well die happy - death by pickling/dehydration In salt can't be pleasant, either. I tend to go for the size ten - or should it be 'one size kills all'! Either way, it's quick.

Hey Holly, try leaving out a tray of plugged plants that you have nurtured for weeks by accident one night and then in the morning all you have left are stalks. You will use salt, beer, pellets, size 10's, a shotgun in fact anything that comes to hand and you won't be one bit bothered about their pain I can assure you.

Well they have ruined many a weeks work on me so I don't feel one bit guilty at all. Think about it another way, it is not just one that you are killing but all their offspring as well ad infinitum. Great feeling of pleasure. We will never win the war but we will win the battles.
