We’ve left it late, but not too late yet!
Our allotment group has decided to plant a number of Irish Heritage Apple Varieties, which we’ve sourced from Irish Seed Savers. 20 bare-roots, on dwarf and semi-dwarfing stocks as we are limited by space and mature tree potential aspect, so we’ll be busy this weekend and next as we try to get them bedded before the spring kicks-in in earnest.
We will be planting 6 varieties of mixed eaters and cookers: April Queens, Bloody Butcher, Cavan Sugarcane, Wexford Loughtree, Martin’s seedling and Summer John.
Then hopefully in another week or so, we’ll relocate a Green Chisel and a Keegan’s which are potted…all in all these should add greatly to the diversity of our little allotment garden where, as individual plot holders we are prevented from growing trees of any sort on the individual plots; but we now have permission to group these on two separate unused communal area’s… _________________ St Anne's Park Allotments |
