Hi all,
Can anyone out there tell me what this plant is ?

I see it day-by-day and am fascinated by it.

At first I thought it was some kind of graminaceous plant on which paint had been spilled; then as a grey/green structure developed at the heart of the plant, it began to resemble a cauliflower on "speed" or some such pharmaceutical !!

Thanks Kindred spirit for the rapid response. I would never have thought of it being a bromeliad - you have saved me a lot of searching

I like the image of "a cauliflower on speed". Great!
What other stimulating or depressing chemical substances might be associated with everyday veg?
Runner beans on......?
Squash.....?

Suggestions, anyone? For some weird reason my word 'spam' is being automatically edited!
