Agreed by Good guy that it has thorny mid ribs to the back of the leaves.
So is a teasel....Dipsacus fullonum.
The flowers are gorgeous.

Great photos, Silver Surfer, thanks. I've always been fond of teasels, ever since encountering them near my aunt's house in Devon, when I was a child. And thanks for the compliment.
