I have a lawn on a new build site the builder took off all the top soil and exposed heavy clay , he then put back four inches of top soil and sowed the lawn . After a wet winter the lawn is very rough and lots of stone that have been picked. What I would like to do is have a few tonne of sand spread and level out the rough places on the lawn would this work _________________ for whom the bell rings |

I wouldn't be too hopeful. For a lawn to grow well and give good service over the years it needs good drainage (unlikely over heavy clay, without work to break it up) and also a good depth of decent quality top soil - at least six to eight inches.
Your best bet might be to start from scratch over the summer and re-seed in September. Before you do, think about how much lawn you need. Grass takes a lot of mowing!
For good info, look up previous posts on this subject. |
