|
|
Hi, I have 2 cherries in different parts of the garden, one is flowering well, the other has just a few on it. On closer inspection I noticed lots of bulging distorted and dying leaves. No sign of bugs, holes or being eaten, except for on the lowest branch I found a small few black aphidy looking things, there was such a small number of them that I don't think they were the cause.
Anyone know what this is? and do I need to treat it or can I just leave it? About 60-70% of the leaves look fine and I have pruned most of the damaged ones.
Pics below...thanks a lot in advance

Thanks for this- I have the same problem and it really is selective- two trees approx. six feet tall- one badly affected by this and the other (three feet away) has no symptoms whatsoever!

Hi again, the symptoms are the same but there is no sign of aphids or sticky stuff, just sick leaves. Those leaves are now turning black and dying, but I'm not sure yet if the disease is spreading.

Hi again, this problem has re appeared on the same tree again this year. Only one or two branches produced flowers, compared to its neighbour which flowered fine. No trace of bugs.
Wondering if it's an internal problem as it arrived again after the winter.

Thanks Greengage. No cure for leaf curl apparently. If I keep cutting off the affected parts i'll be left with no tree in a few years. I'll live with it. Maybe hang a few pink shower puffs from it for a week every April.

its not fatal but there is no cure , If you Keep the area under and around the tree free of debris, such as fallen leaves, dropped fruit and dead limbs it can help. Another way to prevent fungus is to always water the base and never the leaves of the plant, as the fungus can be spread by water splash.
