Lidl had low price on fall heathers at 1.79. I have lost so many of these but will put plant into a bucket until all the peat falls off it and the roots become visible. Whenever I take old dead things out the form of the roots is still compacted like the pot. So what's going on is death by root starvation. Let me see if this works any better. As well will get into fields and hedgerows for gathering wild heather for rockery. Gone totally rampant. Digging out the primroses too because the wild kind are just as attractive, hardy, showy as anything one could buy.
As for daffodils, getting a patch by the roadside that's been naturalized and helping it out by spreading some into my less prolific spots. |

Bluebells are easy to grow from seed and you may still find seed heads that haven't shed their seeds. They can easily be invasive, if in the wrong place, though they are beautiful. |

Good point, Greengage. I collected the seed from mine from a bank at on old cemetery up the road from my house. So they are not only native but local too. I've collected local Woodruff seed for a "wild" bank in my garden, as well.
Everyone should be careful about where they source "free" material from. And it should be remembered that it is an offence to remove wild plants from their environment. |
