Hi,

Can anyone tell me what this weed is?

It seems to grow under the weed mat and pop up anywhere this is a hole. Can I kill it and the long bare white roots without having to take all the mats up?

I have removed bag liners of the its long bare white roots. Its a real creeper.

Thanks,

Peter

Oh dear, you do have horrid weeds.
Horsetail now this!Calystegia sepium. Common name hedge bindweed.

You need Glyphosate weed killer.
Roundup.
Wait till plant has lots of leaves THEN spray.
It is not an instant kill.
The poison is taken right down to the roots and will kill it slowly.
You may need to repeat every month or so until you get rid of it for good.

Do not be tempted to use weed killer stronger than instructed.

Silver surfer right as usual, A trick to get it off the ground push a cane into the ground it will wrap itself around it as it climbs (Technically not the right word)
Then get a strong rubber glove for your hands and a sponge and rub the leaves with roundup. Again it will not survive in lawns as constant cutting with the mower will eventually kill it.
