Having read a post here about lawns in shady areas and the suggestion about planting ferns, I think i want to go for it in a corner of my garden. I'm not sure whether to wait until the autumn to plant or to do it now. Anyone suggest a good mixture of evergreen and non-evergreen ferns? It's not a big area. Thanks in advance.

Some ferns need acidic soil only and some prefer alkaline, so you'd need to know which your soil is first.

Dryopteris Filix-Mas, a local fern here, is as tough as old boots and evergreen.

Shady Plants near Youghal have a big range of ferns to pick from.
