I'm wondering wether or not to give my two year old hedge a haircut before winter sets in. It was pruned earler this year and has grown quite vigorously since.

My concern would be if we get a hard frost in the next month or two would this do any damage?? I'm in the Northwest (seaside location).

Thanks in advance.

I would go ahead and give it a light prune. If you have pruned it once and it is growing vigorously it is doing quite happy in its location. You don't say what variety it is, but it is one of those hedges that if it gets out of hand it can be pruned back hard. One disadvantage, if it gets too high it may fall over. I have seen and cut one that was 2 meters high.

Thanks for your reply. It's an escallonia macrantha.
It's up to between 4 and 5 foot again now in most parts even after the pruning I gave it earlier this year. I'll take your advice and give it a light prune this weekend. Hope the weather remains as mild!!
